>> live, from the cbs bay area studios t is kpix5 news. >> i can't believe i did it. >> tonight, this bay area woman just swam her way into the record books. the problem she ran into along the way that scared her more than sharks. i'm juliette goodrich. >> i'm brian hackney. kim chambers is the first person to complete the 30 nautical mile swim from the farallon to the golden gate. she had her doubts. christian hartnett? >> reporter: we are talking one of the toughest swim challenges into the entire world. just four people have done it. three since the 1960s . but kim

chambers fulled through despite adversity. [ cheers and applause ] >> reporter: a warm welcome home for kim chambers and her first step on land in 17 hours. >> i'm completely overwhelmed. this is something i wanted for so long. i can't believe i did it. >> reporter: her hands shook and eyes glistened as she described her brutal 30-mile ocean journey just minutes after it ended. she had doubts she would be able to finish what she started. >> it was really a tough swim. i was pretty ill in the middle of the night. and i couldn't keep any food down. so i actually thought my swim was over because i need to feed every 30 minutes and i couldn't take anything down. >> ten miles to development look at that. >> reporter: kim's spirits were kept high by the crew following her the entire end starting at

the farallon islands 11:00 p.m. friday night until 5:00 p.m. today when she reached the bridge. her mother flew in from new zealand to stay by her daughter's side the whole way. >> i was amazed and how she had such mental fortitude and determination. she was freezing cold. you could tell. she is exhausted. she's got aches and pains but she didn't give up. >> reporter: only four others have completed the swim. kim is the first woman to do it. >> this is what happens when you are scared of big dreams. you just do it. and then this happens. [ laughter ] >> reporter: kim's swim partner and friend simon dominguez was on the boat the whole time cheering her on. just last week, dominguez trying to become the first person to make the swim in the opposite direction from the golden gate to the farallons but he had to give up three miles from the finish when his

family spotted a great white shark circling. he said after kim's historic swim, there is no better person to be the first woman to finish it. >> thank you christian hartnett. well popular bay area musician was pulled from the lineup at outside lands after police say they caught him in the act of scalping wristbands. ♪ [ music ] >> well, xavier defropolis goes by the name fantastic nogrido. he rose to fame after winning a music contest on npr. they got a tip that he and two other men were trying to sell artist bands on craigslist. they are given to hand out to family and friends. >> our officers then looked

decency. >> if you haven't heard, i disinvited donald trump. >> reporter: in response, trump called ericson a total loser but there were unmistakable signs of turmoil in his campaign saturday. in a rare occurrence, the billionaire businessman tried to soften his remarks but in a very trump way tweeting blood would have been coming out of kelly's nose and releasing a statement saying only a deviant would think anything else. his political adviser roger stone apparently didn't agree and left the campaign. >> we don't have time for political correctness, but the campaign seems to have gone into a cul-de-sac and i'm disappointed by a lack of specificky. >> trump is measuring his

[ cheers and applause ] >> well, then activists took over the stage pushing sanders aside. they talked about the death of michael brown and what happens in ferguson, missouri, sanders gave up after 15 minutes. he left the park after posing for some pictures and shaking a few hands. a powerful typhoon that slammed into taiwan has moved into southeast china tonight. millions of homes are without

power and that's the least of the damage. >> reporter: heavy rains from the typhoon unleashed the landslides in this mountain village in taiwan leaving hopes surrounded. in one area, cars were buried in rock and debris. there are still people up in the mountains local residents say. i want to look for them. in new taipei city, emergency crews rescued a family trapped under debris from another mud slide. at the height of the storm, 3 million households lost electricity in taiwan as 100 miles an hour maximum sustained winds downed trees and cut power. toppled trees cut roads too making travel difficult. before crashing into taiwan, typhoon soudelor pounded the u.s. area of saipan. hundreds of u.s. troops have arrived there to help with

my life. >> we went around the corner and from the window, we could see the shattered windshield, we could see a hole over the engine where lightning had struck. we could see the nose of the plane was missing. it was really intensingly thought when it was happening have i told everybody i love that i love them? and as soon as i realized i had done that, i was like oh my. >> the pilots diverted to denver. one person suffered minor injuries because of the tour turbulence. the rocky fire is now 62% contained and all evacuation orders have been lifted near the lake. they expect to have it fully surrounded thursday. it destroyed 43 homes and burned more than 69,000 acres across lake yolo and calusa county. california is cracking down on inlegal drug labs like this one that exploded in walnut

creek last year, the people inside were making hash oil, also known as honey oil. manufacturers are now facing some potent new punishments for putting neighbors in danger. >> reporter: dr. peter grossman of the burn centner west hills says he has treated 20 people for honey oil lab injuries in the past year. >> now, you can see how to make honey oil, hash oil from marijuana. you can see how to do that online. what happens here is if somebody lights a match or turns on a lighter, or as the gas gets next to a pilot light. and boom. you don't just have a flame. you have an explosion. >> reporter: under senate bill 212, if you are caught making honey oil within 300 feet of a home or meth within 200 feet, a judge can consider it an

aggravating factor meaning a stiffer punishment. it is not just the drug beforers being hurt but those living around them. >> we see so many people with significant burn injuries to their face, to their arms, hands, torso, legs. everybody in that path gets injured as well. it is not worth the little extra high or the few extra dollars. >> reporter: senate bill 212 goes into effect january 1. reporting from west hills, i'm rebecca feriter, kpix5. some paint on a high school track is being blamed for a hazmat scare at a bay area swim meet. swimmers noticed the smell this morning. the hazmat crews traced the smell to some paint going down on the track. waste water leaking from an abandoned mine in colorado has seeped all the way to the new

mexico border. the yellow sludge broke loose wednesday when a crew from the epa breached a debris dam in the mine. health officials say the acidity level in the water is equivalent to black coffee, two containment ponds have been built to stop the flow. in the weather department tonight, we have the usual low clouds along the shoreline and tomorrow should be a little warmer than we had today. sunday looks nice. we will cool it down as we head into the workweek. now, we are looking at the structure that has been standing proudly since november 12, 1936. the bay bridge, ladies and gentlemen. the back to back suspension spans and the numbers now mostly in the low 60s . 64 in concord. oakland, 63. livermore, 64. san francisco, 62. it has been fairly mild here in the city. tomorrow morning, drizzle by the shoreline. around the bay and inland, very little clouds. mostly to partly cloudy. the readings in the mid 60s .

that's in the early going. later in the day, low pressure offshore, the ocean temperature fairly warm means it will warm up a little bit tomorrow. and then, a little bubble of high pressure gets shunted aside and it will be a little cooler next week. this will be the driver for next week. we will reestablish the sea breeze and increase the clouds along the shoreline. that will cool everybody down monday, tuesday, wednesday, thursday, and friday will warm it up. future cast though, you can see the low clouds pack along the shoreline. 1:00 tomorrow afternoon. as the loop runs on, the skies stay clear until a few high clouds come in over the bay area. it should make for a nice sunset. to sum it up, it will warm up a little bit tomorrow. it will be warmer by next weekend, a relatively cool week on tap. 68 degrees. not going to outside lands? maybe you are going to the sonoma county fair. 85 degrees there. down in south bay, san jose jazz summer fest. and 82 degrees. and also, the stern grove festival 65 tomorrow. a lot happening around the bay

area. and a nice sunday on tap. 71 in the city. 87 concord. and 77 in oakland tomorrow. down in the south bay, the numbers will be mostly in the upper 70s , low 80s . in the east bay, mid to upper 08s . last warm day a little while. 90 at brentwood. north bay, clouds, and then sun, and then 83 at novato in the extended forecast, we will be looking for things to warm slightly tomorrow before cooling down monday through thursday. and then by the time we get toward the weekend, it will warm up again. so, a little bit warm, and cool, and then warm again. that is weather for sports. here is andrea. the giants have been a streaky team this season trying to avoid three losses in a row. to avoid three losses in a row. more ,,,,,,,,
